The star has donated the full amount of his £25,000 honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to preserve the UK's small concert spaces.

He was awarded the prize on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the past year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part grassroots venues played in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing this success if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support thirty-eight local spots across the UK.

The donation supported locations that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that helped artists and fans.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in major spaces helps the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just sensible," the star has commented.

Previously, they gave their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their act, as well as other local music groups.

Also winners that year M People donated their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," remarked vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning affected the lives of others."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected two local spots in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in the city were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
