According to new allegations from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a two-decade sentence for sex-trafficking crimes, is allegedly readying a commutation application for consideration by the presidential administration.

Preferential Handling Claimed at Correctional Facility

Congressional Democrats on the judicial oversight panel announced that a whistleblower provided information indicating Maxwell is preparing the clemency petition. Additionally, they mentioned she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the committee, stated in a news release that the facility's chief was assisting the convict with copying, printing, and sending documents to aid her effort for clemency.

Specific details of the clemency request are unknown, Raskin added.

Claimed Perks and Custom Arrangements

Raskin states that, per the insider, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are hand-delivered to her living area, and the warden has “personally arranged” private meetings for her and her guests.

These meetings allegedly include a “special cordoned-off area” for attendees and a variety of food and drinks for her guests.

Those visiting Maxwell were also allowed to bring computers, which Raskin described as an “unprecedented action” given the potential danger and potential for unmonitored communications.

In one alleged instance, when communications failed for other prisoners, she was provided directions about who she should tell her associates to call and how personnel would relay the call to her.

Supervisor Acting as Assistant

The source also allegedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to examine and modify papers “quickly”, she reportedly employed the official as her private aide.

The news release indicates that those writing to her would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would provide them to the inmate, who would review and edit them and return them to the warden to digitize and send to the original sender.

Additional Privileges Alleged

Further perks reportedly provided to Maxwell include opportunities to interact with a trainee assistance dog – a benefit not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as private after-hours access to the facility's gym.

Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a request for comment regarding the insider's allegations.

Through a spokesperson, the presidential office said that it “does not comment” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, granting clemency to Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has thought about,” the spokesperson added.

Context and Developments

Over the weekend, it was reported that Maxwell told friends and family in electronic messages that she was “much happier” at the new prison than her previous prison.

This past summer, she was transferred from a low-security prison in Florida's capital to the minimum-security camp in the state, where most inmates are serving time for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as exceptional, occurred just days after she was questioned about the Epstein case by the deputy attorney general, the official, who also once acted as Donald Trump's private attorney.

This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing mounting pressure to release more documents related to the Epstein investigation and amid widespread conjecture around the President's own personal ties to the fallen billionaire and convicted sex offender, who was found dead in a New York jail in 2019 while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Lawmaker Reactions

In the news release, Raskin also announced that he had dispatched a communication to the President, demanding answers about the insider's claims, and called on the president to deny Maxwell’s commutation request.

“You should not grant any type of pardon to this adjudicated and remorseless criminal,” the representative stated in the document. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with canine interaction, with government agents waiting on her every need, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”

The congressman asked that the official appear for a public congressional hearing to address the disclosures and also posed three questions to Trump.

He inquired whether Trump had talked about a possible clemency for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to provide Maxwell with the transfer or favorable and preferential treatment in detention, and whether Maxwell, her lawyers, relatives or representatives have made any commitments to the President or his legal team.

The representative requested for a reply to the inquiries by the specified date.

In October, the US supreme court rejected an petition from Maxwell on her trafficking verdict.
