Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the party reach areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Planners tables.
Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
